PRINCETON, Texas —Citizens Defending Freedom (CDF) has been diligently auditing school libraries in Collin County for inappropriate books. Recently, CDF conducted an audit of Princeton Independent School District (PISD) and found 148 inappropriate books in the district’s online library catalogue. In response to these findings, PISD took immediate action to remove the identified books from circulation for review.
Collin County CDF Education Division Lead Shannon Ayres delivered a compelling presentation to the Princeton Independent School District (ISD) on February 26, 2024. She points out that the inappropriate books are promoted by influential entities like the American Library Association (ALA) and Scholastic. The ALA, once a trusted resource for libraries, has come under scrutiny for actively working against parents, advocating sexually explicit content and opposing faith-based events in libraries.
“For decades districts and parents have relied on these institutions to recommend quality educational material. Most people don’t realize those same institutions have dramatically shifted against the values of most parents.” said Ayres.
The new ALA President, Emily Drabinski, a self-proclaimed Marxist, wrote after her election in April 2022, “I just cannot believe that a Marxist lesbian who believes that power can be built and wielded collectively on behalf of the public good is the president-elect of ALA Library.” Drabinski recently participated in an interview with the online publication Red Fault titled "Creating a Socialist Vision for Public Libraries: A Conversation with Emily Drabinski". CDF believes that those who continue to submit to the ALA's authority are consenting to the continued use of taxpayer dollars to support these ideologies.
Scholastic, once renowned for its promotion of wholesome classics like "Clifford the Big Red Dog" and "Charlotte's Web," now promotes sexually explicit material and harmful ideologies. One such book, "Melissa," by Alex Gino introduces the concept of transitioning children, including the use of androgen blockers and sex change surgeries, while omitting the risks associated with such procedures. Another book, "Welcome to St. Hell" by Lewis Hancox, depicts the author's experiences with transitioning using testosterone injections, binding, and packers.
Princeton ISD Board President Cyndi Darland said the board had already found and removed dozens of inappropriate books but they were not aware of the other books until CDF did the audit.
"We are so grateful to have Citizens Defending Freedom conduct such thorough research, providing us with the understanding and tools necessary to prioritize our students' health and safety." said Darland.
The Princeton ISD Board of Trustees will hold a workshop later this month to discuss ways to use the information CDF provided to protect students in the future.
