Protecting Community Values: Public Drag Show Halted in Texas

Updated: Oct 17

NEW BRAUNFELS, TX  – In a significant win for faith-based community advocacy, Pastor Ceh of New Braunfels, working alongside Citizens Defending Freedom (CDF), successfully halted an all-ages drag show that had been scheduled in New Braunfels, forcing organizers to relocate the event.

Pastor Ceh, known for his unwavering commitment to biblical standards both from the pulpit and at school board meetings, took swift action when he and his wife, Randy, learned about the NBTX 2025 Pride event scheduled in their community. The event, which was advertised as an all-ages drag queen performance, raised immediate concerns among local families.

Upon learning of the event, Pastor Ceh reached out to the Texas CDF team for guidance. CDF provided a detailed briefing on the event’s primary performer and how the show could violate Texas law.

CDF advised a strategic two-pronged approach: organizing prayer initiatives and applying community pressure to bring transparency to the event. Pastor Ceh leveraged his network of local contacts, including Rep. Carrie Isaac, combining CDF’s research with grassroots mobilization efforts.

The results were immediate and impactful. The original Pride event was stalled, and organizers were forced to find another location. In a concerning development, the event has since been moved to a local church and relocated almost entirely indoors. The use of a church to host an event that organizers describe as “not a religious event” raises questions about the appropriateness of allowing performances that mock Christian faith on church grounds.

Despite the venue change, the event will still feature performer Flamy Grant and remain open to “the entire family,” with reduced hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Pastor Ceh exemplifies the kind of bold, principled leadership that makes a real difference in protecting community values,” said Tara Schulte, Texas Executive Director for Citizens Defending Freedom. “When concerned citizens are equipped with accurate information and a clear action plan, they can create real change.”

This victory demonstrates the power of informed community advocacy and the critical role faith leaders play in holding local officials accountable to the values of their constituents. While organizers have found an alternative venue, the successful disruption of the original event shows the strength of citizens standing together for their values.

Community members continue to monitor the relocated event and its impact on local families.
