U.S. Leads the World in Children Living Without Two Parents

According to Pew Research Center, the United States has the highest rate of children
living in single-parent households in the world. Nearly one in four U.S. children under
18—23%—live with only one parent and no other adults. That’s more than triple the global
average of 7%, and significantly higher than nations like Canada (15%), India (5%), and
China (3%).
This is not simply a social trend, but a critical moral and spiritual emergency.
God’s design for the family includes a mother and a father working together to raise their
children in love and truth (Genesis 1:27, Ephesians 6:4). This rising trend of single-parent
households reflects a cultural shift away from the biblical model of shared responsibility
and covenantal partnership in parenting.
The role of a father is not interchangeable or optional. He is called to lead, protect,
provide, and disciple. When that role goes unfulfilled, children suffer—and so does our
nation.
In response, Citizens Defending Freedom has launched the Responsible Fatherhood
Campaign to help reverse this crisis. We are calling men back to their God-given role and
equipping them to lead their families with purpose and strength.
We believe healing begins at home. When fathers return to their post, families are
strengthened—and our culture is changed.
