THE STORY
Laura Cervantes has served as president of the Jasper High School Choir Booster Club, an independent nonprofit organization operated by parents to support students.
According to a federal lawsuit, Plano ISD employees attempted to exert control over the parent-run organization after its leadership challenged their authority and refused demands regarding how privately raised funds should be spent.
The lawsuit further alleges those efforts escalated into false criminal accusations that resulted in the arrests of Laura Cervantes and two other mothers.
All three women were fully cleared when the grand jury declined to indict them.
Now Laura is seeking accountability in federal court.
